RICOH R1218x Series PWM Step-up DC/DC Converter for White LED handbook

The R1218x Series are CMOS-based PWM step-up DC/DC converters, which are optimized to drive white LEDs with constant current. R1218x includes an under-voltage lockout circuit (UVLO), over-voltage protection circuit (OVP). By simply using an inductor, (a diode), a resistor, and a capacitor as external components, white LEDs can be driven with constant current efficiently. R1218xxx1A for 2 to 4 lights contains an internal diode while R1218xxx2A for 5 to 7 lights requires an external diode. The LED current can be determined by the value of current setting resistor. The brightness of the LEDs can be adjusted by applying a PWM signal to the CE or VFB pin.

The R1205x Series are CMOS-based PWM control type step-up DC/DC converter ICs with low supply current. Each of these ICs consists of an NMOS FET, a diode, an oscillator, a PWM comparator, a voltage reference unit, an error amplifier, a current limit circuit, an under voltage lockout circuit (UVLO), an over-voltage protection circuit (OVP), a soft-start circuit, a Maxduty limit circuit, and a thermal shutdown protection circuit. This step-up DC/DC converter can be easily built with a few external components such as a coil, a resistor, and a capacitor. As the protection functions, the R1205x Series have a Lx peak current limit function, an over voltage protection (OVP) function, an under voltage lock out (UVLO) function and a thermal shutdown function. The R1205x Series present the R1205x8xxA version that is optimized for the constant voltage power source, and the R1205x8xxB version that is optimized for driving the white LED with the constant current. The R1205x8xxB is an adjustable version that can change the LED brightness dynamically by using a 200Hz to 300kHz PWM signal toward the CE pin. The R1205x Series are available in DFN1616-6B and TSOT-23-6 packages.

The R1204x Series is a low-supply-current CMOS-based PWM step-up DC/DC converter. Internally, a single IC consists of an NMOS FET, an oscillator, a PWM comparator, a voltage reference unit, an error amplifier, a current limit circuit, an under voltage lockout circuit (UVLO), an over-voltage protection circuit (OVP), a soft-start circuit, a maximum duty cycle limit circuit, and a thermal shutdown protection circuit. By simply using an inductor, a resistor, capacitors and a diode as external components, a high-efficiency step-up DC/DC converter can be easily configured. As protection functions, the IC contains a thermal shutdown protection circuit, a current limit circuit, an OVP circuit, and an UVLO circuit. A thermal shutdown circuit detects overheating of the ICs and stops the operation to protect it from damage. A current limit circuit limits the peak current of Lx, and an OVP circuit detects the over voltage of output, and an UVLO circuit detects the low input voltage. The R1204x Series provide the R1204xxxA/D versions, which are optimized for serial driving of white LEDs with constant current, and the R1204xxxB/C/E/F versions, which are optimized for constant voltage driving. Among the R1204xxxB/C/E/F versions, only the R1204xxxC/F versions are equipped with PWM/VFM auto switching controls. The LED current can be determined by the value of current setting resistor. The brightness of the LED can be adjusted by changing the value of the current setting resistor.

The R1202x Series are CMOS-based PWM step-up DC/DC converters, which are optimized to drive white LEDs and OLED with constant current. There are two types. The A/B versions are optimized for the general use or the drive of PMOLED, and the D version is optimized for the serial drive of white LED with constant current. The R1202x includes an under-voltage lockout circuit (UVLO), a soft-start circuit, and an over-voltage protection circuit (OVP), a thermal shutdown circuit. By simply using an inductor, divider resisters, and capacitors as external components, OLED and white LEDs can be driven with high efficiently. At the standby mode, the internal NPN transistor can separate the output from the input. (Shutdown function) The A/B version with auto-discharge function is selectable. D Version can set white LED current with feedback resister (R1). The brightness of the LEDs and the soft-start time can be adjusted by applying a PWM signal (200Hz to 300kHz) to the CE pin. In addition to DFN1616-6B, 0.95mm thickness TSOT-23-6 is available.

The R1200x Series PWM Step-up DC/DC converters are CMOS-based PWM step-up DC/DC converters, which are optimized to drive passive matrix OLED or white LEDs with constant current. The R1200x includes an under-voltage lockout circuit (UVLO), a soft-start circuit, and an over-voltage protection circuit (OVP). By simply using an inductor, divider resisters, and capacitors as external components, OLEDs and white LEDs can be driven with high efficiently. At the standby mode, the internal NPN transistor can separate the output from the input. By this shutdown function, white LED's current can be completely shutdown, and output voltage for OLED can be completely cut off, therefore, the R1200x does not have bad impact on the life expectancy of OLED. The R5524N series USB high side switch IC is a CMOS-based USB high side switch IC. The R5524N is a protection IC used in the power line of USB with built-in current limit circuit, thermal shutdown circuit, and under-voltage lockout circuit (UVLO). The R5524N001 has the built-in latch-off type over-current limit circuit. When the over-current is detected, the protection circuit becomes active and the switch-transistor is turned OFF. The R5524N002 has the built-in over current protection circuit as the constant current type. It detects as the over-current condition, if the current flows as the ITH defined. Then operating the switch transistor to limit the output current to be the constant current defined by the ILIM. The SOT-23-5 package is available, which is smaller than SOT-89-5 (R5520H).

The R3200x Series are reset timer ICs with two input signals for mobile equipments which require long interval for reset sequence. The long interval prevents unexpected resets caused by accidental key operations. Internally, each of these ICs consist of a delay generator circuit and output driver transistors. The R3200x Series have two active-low input pins (SR0 and SR1) which generate reset signals after output delay time when both input pins are activated at the same time. R3200x Series has two versions that are different in output delay time settings and output release method. - R3200x001x : Output delay time selectable (7.5s or 11.25s) by connecting DSR pin to either GND or VDD. The reset signal will be canceled if either of the input pin becomes “H”. Until either input pin becomes “H”, the reset signal will be continually outputted. - R3200x002x : Output delay time is fixed at 7.5s. After the reset signal is being output 0.234s, it will be released automatically or if either of the input pin becomes “H”, the reset signal will be canceled. While the reset signals are remaining active or being sent out, the ICs provide ultra-low supply current. The R3200x Series are available in DFN(PLP)2020-8B and DFN1216-8 packages.
