MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS DS1602 Elapsed Time Counter handbook
Update: 29 September, 2023
The DS1602 is a real-time clock/elapsed time counter designed to count seconds when VCC power is applied and continually count seconds under battery backup power with an accuracy of two 32-bit counters. The counters can track seconds for over 125 years. It can count seconds from the time the battery is attached until VBAT is less than 2.5V. It can also count seconds while VCC is above VTP and retain the count in the absence of VCC under battery backup power. The clear function resets the selected counter to 0. The read/write serial port affords low pin count. The maximum current drain is less than 1µA from the VBAT pin when the serial port is disabled. It uses a one byte protocol to define read/write, counter address, and software clear function. It is available in an 8-pin DIP or optional 8-pin SOIC package. It operates in a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It can operate with reduced performance down to VCC = 2.5V. It is recognized by Underwriters Laboratory (UL).
